Letter to the Editor, Buffalo Skull on Montana's new quarters has significance
West Yellowstone News
6/01/07
To the Editor:
As a community for whom the buffalo are a major tourist attraction, West Yellowstone can enjoy the unveiling of the twenty-five near life-size painted buffalo statues this weekend.

It is a sad commentary, however, that many living buffalo, whom these twenty-five portray, will be forced this week into a newly set-up capture facility at the West Yellowstone Airport. There are no cattle on Horse Butte, nor will there be, to justify such aggressive action. All buffalo
caught outside the Park....bulls, cows and new born calves...will be rounded up and removed...PERMANENTLY!

Something is rotten here. We celebrate symbolic buffalo while the Department of Livestock and its allied agencies slaughter the living.

Suddenly, the buffalo skull on Montana's new quarters has a righteous significance.
