Shooting
of a bison in Horse Butte under investigation, KPAX News Station
Feb 9, 2007 01:12 PM
The shooting of a bison in the Horse Butte area near West Yellowstone
was under investigation Tuesday, after volunteers with the Buffalo
Field Campaign documented on video, a resident hunter shooting
a bull bison on private property.
Representatives with the Buffalo Field Campaign says that the
shots were taken less than 150 yards from nearby homes. The
bison advocates say that this proves that the state of
Montana has put the cart before the horse when it comes to this
year's expanded bison hunt.
The hunter in this case has been cited for hunting without landowner
permission and must pay a $135 bond.
The bison has been seized by Fish Wildlife and Parks and will
be donated to a food bank. FWP Warden
Captain Sam Sheppard says that, while this is an unfortunate
situation, this will be handled like any other similar hunter
violation".
