Dear Sir, (Governor Schweitzer)
I am sure you are aware of the atrocities against the animals
of Montana. The buffalo have been the most prevalent target
of the abuse and extermination in the past and now the Elk and
all other hoofed animals are at risk. Where will it stop? Why
should it be allowed to start? I doubt the hunters in this or
any other state will appreciate the more or less secret plans
of the US government agencies involved. The public will
be informed about this and it is your place to stop this now
or risk being part of the problem. I realize you have
limits but it is likely your political and popularity future
will be in severe jeopardy if this plan is allowed to continue.
I am sure it was a shock to be told as new Governor, that you
are powerless against the cattlemen. It is totally unacceptable. WHY
DON'T THE WILDLIFE AGENCIES HAVE THE GUTS TO STAND UP AND SAY
NO?
I have one simple question. IF THE CATTLEMEN ARE SO AFRAID
OF THIS DISEASE, WHY DON'T THEY SIMPLY VACCINATE THEIR PRECIOUS
CATTLE AGAINST IT? Other states do. g If the
vaccine does not work, why not put all this wasted money into
creating one that is effective? If you took away the money
that is paid to the Dept. of Livestock to abuse and murder WILDLIFE,
how long do you think they would continue abusing this unique
strain of WILD BUFFALO.? They would soon find another way
to protect their cattle. The proud State of Montana brags about
their "free roaming herd of Yellowstone Buffalo" and
that is becoming such a fallacy. And now, these agencies
are planning to basically eradicate the Elk too ! That is not
going to work and it seems everyone knows it. It is beyond
belief that these publically paid agencies are allowed to do
such shameful work. If left alone, nature will take care of
itself. PROTECT YOUR OWN INTERESTS, do not do this thing !
You will have plenty of support if you will stop these unthinkable
acts against nature. If this is allowed to go forward any longer,
there is a real risk of wiping all the wild and free animals
from the Western US. How will the tourism dollars be effected
by that? DO NOT HELP BLACK LIST MONTANA ! This is
just wrong and totally avoidable. Please do not ignor it. By
the way, I am sure you know there are no cattle on Horse Butte
and when there are, they are VACCINATED IDAHO CATTLE. See the
problem? This area supports many special species of animal and
bird and they too are continually abused along with the buffalo.
It is a blanket effect. It is wrong. I sincerely hope you will
stay in touch with the people that elected you. Do not disappoint
yourself and the people of Montana. If you can get this
state to stop smoking in public places, you can do this. One
question on that, why does it take years to simply put up no
smoking signs? How many lives could be saved by doing it now? By
the way, thank you !
