Nearly 10,000 wild Yellowstone bison have been slaughtered since 1985 due to the intolerance of the State of Montana. The winter of 2007-2008 was particuly severe. 1,631 bison were killed in just a few months, making it the heaviest slaughter of wild buffalo since the 19th century.
