BFC
counters DOL's claim regarding incident

I
am writing today to respond to the denial by the MT Dept.
of Livestock that any barbed wire fencing exists at Koelzer's
(the site of the capture facility) and that no bison were
injured last week during the hazing and capture operation
at Duck Creek.
We have video as well as camera documentation that proves
not only that barbed wire exists at the capture facility
property but also that bison under the "care"
of the MDOL are abused, injured and mistreated.
It is true that the "smooth" wire fencing also
exists.
This high tension wire fencing is so tightly strung that
when buffalo are run head-long into the fence the Earth
trembles and the sound reverberates. Many of our volunteers
think it is electric due to the intensity of the sound.
The fencing that runs parallel to the park boundary at
Fir Ridge does in fact have barbed wire on the top two
wires, a fence that constitutes one of the highest ever
to exist in a natural migration corridor...a corridor
not exclusive to bison but also used by elk.
We have witnessed and documented bison, as well as elk,
being hazed into the barbed wire.
We believe that barbed wire also exists on the opposite
end of the property. Because it is private property where
this publicly funded capture facility sits, we have been
denied access to facility and treatment of the wildlife
that the public officials keep hostage.
We would love the opportunity to be proven wrong by the
MDOL if they would allow us to enter the property, view
the facility and fencing that surrounds it, and be privy
to the meetings that are conducted in the basement of
Koelzer's home.
If the MDOL, USFS, and NPS have nothing to hide, then
why not honor Montana's open meeting laws and allow for
public citizens to monitor government activities that
are funded by US tax payers?
Also, we are hoping to have a table and volunteers out
honoring the Wild Buffalo Mothers on the Sunday of Mother's
Day at the day use facility on Rainbow Pt. Rd. and 191.
We encourage folks to come out and ask us any questions.
We hope to maintain an atmosphere of celebration and community,
NOT aggressive confrontation.
With the Buffalo,
