Update From the Field
Friends of the Buffalo,
We
are busy at Camp gathering firewood for another busy
season, our seventh in the field with the Yellowstone
buffalo. Volunteers have been showing up every day to
help with the necessary chores of preparing for the
coming winter. Thanks to all of you who have been lending
a hand, be it through the hard manual labor of cutting
wood or through the equally important work of supporting
the Campaign with donations of gear and financial assistance.
We couldn't be here without you.
We are making great strides in our long-term goals and
celebrate the recent support from 199 members of the
U.S. House of Representatives for Yellowstone Buffalo
protection. Though the Rahall Amendment to prevent the
Departments of Interior and Agriculture from using federal
dollars on buffalo slaughter was narrowly defeated,
we look forward to future successes in the U.S. Congress.
Representative Hinchey of New York is expected to introduce
bison protection legislation this fall. We will keep
you informed as developments occur and let you know
how you can help.
We are also celebrating the fact that there are no longer
cattle allotments on Horse Butte and that our legal
efforts to gain long-term protection for the last wild
buffalo are gaining momentum.
Dan Brister kicked off the East Coast leg of the tour
last night with a presentation at the Patagonia store
in Washington, DC. The event went amazingly well, with
a good turnout, great audience participation, and a
lot of exciting contacts made with folks after the show.
People were outraged to learn of the slaughter of Yellowstone
buffalo and eager to join forces with the BFC. Great
momentum to start things off. We owe thanks to Patagonia,
Kate, and all the employees at the Georgetown store.
Please see the schedule of upcoming events posted below
to find out when we'll be in your neck of the woods
None of this recent activity would be possible without
you. If you've been wanting to contribute, now would
be a great time as we work to get things ready for the
coming season. Any donation large or small will help!
Some of you requested a way that you can make automatic
monthly donations - you can now do that securely online.
Thanks for the suggestion!
All donations made by October 15th will receive a bonus
of a quality bumper (or water bottle ) sticker that
says - "Keep Yellowstone Bison Wild & Free"
You will also be entered in a special drawing for a
great gift from one of our supporters.
Consider donating the price of a meal out for you and
some friends (since we can feed a volunteer for 38 cents
a day - it will go a long ways.) BFC can move forward
with the ESA listing and our outreach and education
program area if 100 folks donate $50 each. We can pay
our rent if 10 folks donate $170. $38 dollars keeps
an activist in the field for a week.
Please join us NOW and click below and donate.

Thanks so much.
We can't be here With the Buffalo without YOU!
Together we are making a difference!

Last Words
I think I could turn and live with animals,
they are so placid,
and self-contained,
I stand and look at them long and long
They do not sweat and whine about their condition,
They do not lie awake in the dark and weep for their
sins,
They do not make me sick discussing their duty to God,
Not one is dissatisfied, not one is demented with the
mania of
owning things,
Not one kneels to another, nor to his kind that lived
thousands
of years ago,
Not one is respectable or unhappy over the whole earth
--Walt Whitman
