* Update from the Field
Dear Buffalo Supporters,
The days grow shorter and the nights colder, urging us to finalize our preparations for the coming season. In recent weeks we have been busy gathering, cutting, and stacking scores of cords of firewood, making much-needed repairs to the cabin, and attending public meetings to gain an idea of the government's bison-killing plans for the coming winter. We know our presence--both in the field and on the policy front--is making a difference. Since we last wrote you, a few buffalo have appeared near the Yellowstone boundary, harbingers of the season ahead. Already the local Department of Livestock agent has come out to haze those buffalo deeper into Yellowstone Park.

We have been working hard all summer to make our cabin ready for the return of the busy field season, when we will be joined--as we have every year for the past 11--by hundreds of volunteers who put their lives on hold to come stand in defense of the last truly wild bison left in America. If those volunteers are the lifeblood of Buffalo Field Campaign--doing the on-the-ground work for the buffalo--then you, our supporters, are the beating heart of BFC--sustaining all our efforts to protect the buffalo. Without the support of individual donors, who comprise the majority of our funding, none of our work would be possible. With the national and world economies in shambles, we have already noticed a reduction in donations. If you care about Yellowstone bison and believe in the work of Buffalo Field Campaign, please make a donation today. Even if you can only afford to give $5 or $10, every little bit helps and none will be wasted.

I rise, I rise,
I, whose tread makes the earth to rumble.
I rise, I rise,
I, in whose thighs there is strength.
I rise, I rise,
I, who whips his back with his tail when in rage.
I rise, I rise,
I, in whose humped shoulder there is power.
I rise, I rise,
I, who shakes his mane when angered.
I rise, I rise,
I, whose horns are sharp and curved.
