November 2003
Dear friends of the buffalo,
The Buffalo Field Campaign has maintained a constant presence outside Yellowstone National Park since the winter of 1997-98, protecting the only continuously free roaming herd of buffalo left in the United States. The organization was formed in response to the mass slaughter of 1996-97, which left 1,084 buffalo dead in the state of Montana.
Since that time, we have had over 1,700 volunteers from all over the country and all over the world, pass through our cabin, located outside of West Yellowstone, Montana. We are a grassroots organization operating on a very tight budget, and volunteers are our lifeblood. The winter and spring months are when volunteers are needed most, but we encourage people to come year round.
Nutritious, wholesome food and shelter is provided, as is all the cold weather gear that may be needed. Just as important as the volunteers are the donations that allow us to provide for them and keep them in the field.
All kinds of donations are accepted. OF COURSE-we can put cash to good use and use it frugally. Please send all donations (gear or funds) to: P.O. Box 957, West Yellowstone, MT, 59758. All donations are tax deductible, including gear if you send a receipt of purchase or approximate value of the gear. If you would like a tax deductible receipt please let us know.
You can also make an
secure online donation -
Also - we really could use one more reliable Subaru!

With temperatures below -0F in West Yellowstone - all clothing and gear needs for Buffalo Field Campaign volunteers must be designed for extreme weather conditions. Fabric materials must keep people dry (wick moisture off) and warm. Wool, Polyproplyene, Synchilla, Capilene, Gore-Tex, Qualofill, and the like are appropriate fabrics for extreme weather conditions. Cotton is dangerous in these conditions.
There are approximately 30 volunteers at any one time at the Buffalo Field Campaign. As of Fall 2003 - over 1700 volunteers have come thru camp. If you have any questions about a donation you would like to make, please contact the field camp at 406-646-0070 or buffaloatwildrockies.org.
The organized presence of Buffalo Field Campaign volunteers has saved and continues to save Yellowstone's magnificent buffalo. Without a constant field presence the DOL would surely be killing buffalo at will. Buffalo Field Campaign has turned the tide and no longer will the DOL have a free rein to slaughter the only continuously wild buffalo herd in the United States.
On behalf of Buffalo Field Campaign's volunteers, please open your hearts and help them obtain the clothing and gear that will keep them safe and healthy this winter. Please pray for the safety of the buffalo and for the safety and well being of the people who are protecting them every day. Please pass this plea along to friends, family and businesses who can help. Thank you! for the buffalo!
Your monetary donations
are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. They will be used to food and shelter
and front line activities - no fancy offices or high payin' salaries, here -
