The internet is built on links. Links are what enables us to "surf" the internet. www.buffalofieldcampaign.org is an example of a link. There are internal links which allows you to navigate within a website or external links which take you to other places on the world wide web like a news article on another website. Links can also be to documents, photos, or videos.

At BFC, we create links almost daily. Mostly on social media and in Salsa when creating the Updates from the Field.

Examples of Internet Links

Internal Link Examples:

Working Internal Link: Volunteer With Us

Broken Internal Link: Endangered Species, Endangered Migration

External Link Examples:

Working External Link: Guest column: Supporting what's best for Yellowstone's wild buffalo

Broken External Link: Guest column: The return of the American bison is an environmental boon — and a logistical mess

Resolving & Reporting Broken Links

Every once in a while, we create a broken link. The potential for the most broken links are in the Updates from Field because there are so many new ones created. Unfortunately, there is no way to edit a link once the Update has been sent. The only way to resolve a broken link in the Update is to fix the link and resend. That's the reason for the Test Update, is to try and catch these broken links before it goes out. The website has been up for a long time so it's rare that someone finds and reports a broken link. On social media, the platforms (except Instagram) give you a preview of what you're linking, it's a built in feature so broken links don't happen.

If a supporter does report a link, we need to try and find out exactly where the link the is. We need to know what they actually clicked on and where is it located: website, social media, or Salsa email. If the supporter reports the error by email, please forward the email to the appropriate person so they can communicate with the supporter and get it quickly be resolved.
